The movie somewhat skirts around any talk of sexual contact, but the point is clear: go and get tested for VDs...more specifically: get tested for syphilis. Brief Synopsis of DVD: "The most miraculous power-station known to us is the heart."  The heart along with the eyes, ears, larynx, and the dozens of other organs make up an even more miraculous creations, the Human Body.  This DVD brings together some of the most interesting human body and biology films from the past for unique look at science education from the 30's to the 50's.  Many of the films have beautiful animation and I must warn you that some of the films are can be a little gruesome at time.

Disc 9: Human Growth Film (1920s)

Brief Synopsis of DVD: This DVD features a unconscionable human growth study in which two twins are studied to find the effects of physical activity on human grow and development.  

Title #1: Growth study of Johnny and Jimmy

Production Date: 1920s

Running Time: 38 minutes

Brief Description:   Jimmy and Johnny, twins, are use to study the effects of physical activity on human growth and development.  One twin is allowed to play and gets lots of physical activity such as swimming and moving huge building blocks, while the other twin is kept bed ridden.  This study lacked every ethical and moral standard, while yielding predictable results, but nonetheless provides an excellent glimpse into the minds of the scientific community of the time.

Disc 10: Menstruation Films (1950's)

Brief Synopsis of DVD: These campy classic feminine hygiene films discuss the menstrual cycle, having your first period and the female reproductive system.  Common physical and emotional symptoms such as pms, cramps and bleeding and the proper application of tampons and feminine napkins are covered at length. 

Title #1: Molly Grows Up

Production Date: 1953

Running Time: 14 minutes

Brief Description: A rather sexist film, Molly Grows Up, presents the basics of the menstrual cycle to a young girl.  Classroom lessons and advice from family teach the young teenage girl what to expect and how to manage her menstruations.  The film was sponsored by the Personal Products Corporation, which delicately plugs its line of feminine products in the film.

Title #2: Naturally A Girl

Brief Description: Interviews with teenagers and concise graphics explain the female reproductive system and the menstrual cycle.  The film asks and answers the following questions among others: "What happens to the menstrual flow when it leaves the body?" "How often should you change feminine napkins?" "How do you dispose of feminine napkins?" "Does every girl cramps during her period?" and "Does everyone know when you are menstruating?"  The film was sponsored by the Personal Products Corporation, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. 

Disc 11: Stomach Ulcer Film (1957)

Brief Synopsis of DVD: This is a DVD edition of a classic 1957 stomach ulcer film produced to spread information about the unfortunate, painful medical condition. The film was produced by the University of Oklahoma – get it now on DVD!

Brief Description: Steve Hall, an executive at his firm, is having trouble with his work and home life relationships because he has a horrible pain in his side.  Steve's boss forces him to go see a doctor who diagnoses him with an ulcer.  Oddly enough the wife is partially blamed for causing the ulcer.
