volcanic eruptions that will leave you breathless. This amazingly colorful film
about the active, erupting volcanoes in Hawaii was shot in 1959 and 1960 by a
very dedicated (and brave!) group of photographers who were obsessed with
shooting valuable film of composite and shield volcano eruptions. Incredible
natural visuals make this a beautiful and rare documentation of our Earth's
history on the gorgeous Hawaiian shores.
This DVD is great for those who would
like educational video footage and pictures of active Hawaiian volcanos,
lava flow and volcano eruptions. While the entertaining visual content and
cinematography of this DVD can easily add excitement to a lackluster education
lesson plan or class learning activity, the volcano information in this
collection is very pertinent and useful. This film shows the different types of
volcanoes, whether shield or composite, which have been erupting in Hawaii for a
long time. You've never felt so close to active volcanoes! Running time is 17

    Brief Synopsis of DVD:
This is a cool compilation of three vintage disaster films -
two of them from the 1930s and one of them from the 1970s. It's an interesting

think about disasters so differently now than we did in the 1970s...come watch a
changing Earth in a changing time on this rare DVD collection.
Title #1:
Menace of Guatemala Production Date:
1934 Running Time: 9 minutes Brief Description:
There is great cinematography of Guatemala in this documentary about people who
live in the shrouds of a giant volcano that could destroy their community at any
moment. The narration is racist in this movie, which was fairly typical for the
time, unfortunately.

Title #2:
Earth watch: Your Chance to Live Production Date:

13 minutes Brief Description:
A tsunami is coming and a young couple is starting to understand the mysterious
power of nature. This ambiguous 1972 film may leave you perplexed...what a crazy
old film!
 Title #3:
Shock Troops of Disaster Production Date:

This 1938 film has some of the best early hurricane damage footage around. A
giant hurricane came on the New England shore in 1938, and this film shows how
the Works Project Administration came in and tried to stop the bleeding...

Real rescue footage from newsreels are highlighted along with well done

 Title #3:
1906 San Francisco Earthquake Film Collection Production Date:
1906 Running Time:
40 minutes Brief Description:
This is an amazing collection of silent 1906 footage immediately after a major
Earthquake had destroyed many areas of San Francisco. There's footage of cleanup
crews, people searching for their homes and relatives, mass destruction and auto
trips down Market Street. About 10-15 minutes of the film is jumpy and the
frames roll, but the fact that this rare 1906 film even exists is amazing! There
is some great panoramic camera movement, along with some slow-motion and
fast-motion photography. This is as close to a first hand view you'll get of
early 20th-century American natural disasters!
