Bob Custer plays Bruce Manning, the town marshal who gets caught in the middle of a dispute over land rights between a new group of homesteaders and the Morgan family, the ranchers who traditionally grazed their cattle on the land. When Mannings fiancees brother, Clay Morgan, shoots one of the homesteaders who are trying to build on his familys grazing lands, a feud breaks out. In the ensuing violence, Bruce takes Clay into his custody and Ann Morgan, his fiancée, is taken hostage in retaliation by the homesteaders whose son was first killed. When Anns father comes to rescue her, he accidentally shoots his own son, Clay, in the firefight. In the end, Clay confesses to having killed the homesteader. Then he dies and the two families finally agree to coexist together on the disputed land.
