Water is such an integral part of our day-to-day life and survival, yet it is often overlooked. This DVD is a special educational compilation of four valuable water films and movies from the 1940s and 50s. These are great films and the information still holds up today in terms of scientific relevance and classroom learning. You cant find this DVD anywhere else because we designed it ourselves! Included Content: The Adventures of Junior Raindrop Length: 10 Minutes | Produced:1948 The Adventures of Junior Raindrop, a funny, yet educational film, follows the journey of one young raindrop as he flows through a watershed--showing the effects of both good and bad watershed management. The raindrop becomes a delinquent and joins a gang of other bad drops due to bad watershed management. Interspersed in the animation are live-action shots of good and bad management in real watersheds. The Adventures of Junior Raindrop, though geared towards children, is full of information about the proper use of natural resources and the ways in which young children, or anyone, can help out. City Water Supply Length: 10 Minutes | Produced:1941 City Water Supply describes the importance of water to all living things and, more precisely, details the New York City water-supply system. Water sources include springs, underground reservoirs, lakes, and rivers. Animation shows the relationship between rain and the rest of the watershed. The workings of the NYC water-supply system, especially water treatment and pollution prevention, are discussed thoroughly. The film captures lab tests done on water, demonstrations of how the filtering systems work in the water-treatment plant, and the addition of compounds such as alum and lime to facilitate the process. From the aqueducts that bring water into the city to the pressure pumps that deliver it to individual houses, footage illustrates the transportation of water from its source to consumers. Water Length: 10 Minutes | Produced:1953 Water is an essential element to all life forms and in all modern day industries. In order to use water, it is necessary to treat it for human consumption. This task is accomplished through the filtering out of impurities. The impurities are used for other things, such as the building up of land and the fertilization of fields. Although water is an abundant resource, it is essential to remember that it takes a great deal of effort to make water usable, so it is important to not be wasteful. Pipeline to the Clouds Length: 25 Minutes | Produced:1951 Pipeline to the Clouds is an informative science movie from the 1950s (a decade full of great educational resources). Since the beginning of time, humans have recognized the importance of having safe and abundant supplies of drinking water. In modern times the importance of safe supplies are dwindling due to extreme population growth and the water usage in industrial functions. Drought is a serious threat to mankind. This film explains the water cycle and how water treatment systems function. The waterworks industry is an important and necessary one. The treatment and purification of once unusable water helps increase supply. However, the current levels of waterworks stations are not high enough for future sustainability. Drinking water pipelines are essential in every hydrological cycle. In order to ensure the future water supply it is important for Americas citizens to support waterworks legislation and to take measures to ensure water is not wasted. Since this is a vintage film, it illuminates the history of water as well as educating viewers on the steps of the water cycle.
